DARK SKIN

What is Dark Skin?
Dark skin may be something natural which a person was born with, or it may develop in later stages of life due to hyper pigmentation and other factors. There are people who deliberately want dark skin to acquire a tanned look. But fair complexioned people are mostly afraid of dark skin. The quantity of skin pigment melanin is higher in dark skin than what is found in fair skin. This additional amount of melanin is also responsible for patchy and blemished skin.

Symptoms of Dark Skin:
There are a few symptoms by which the appearance of dark skin can be identified. The principal symptom of dark skin is formation of blemishes or dark patches on blackish or dark brown skin. There are other symptoms as well, like appearance of marks and scars over the skin. The most common symptom of dark skin is when the skin changes its color to brownish to blackish.

Causes of Dark Skin:
As mentioned at the beginning, a person may be born with dark skin because of hereditary reasons. In such cases, if a person has dark skin, his/her children may also have dark skin because of gene transfer. Dark skin is also caused by certain types of skin disorders, like lichen simplex chronicus or severe itching on skin. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and hyper pigmentation are two other main factors that are responsible for dark skin. Not only skin disorders, even adrenal disorder, liver problems or intestinal disorders may turn out to be the cause of a person’s dark skin. Lack of proper nutrition in diet and vitamin deficiency may also cause dark skin.

Home Treatment for Dark Skin:
Home Remedies:

You can soak a few almonds in water throughout the night, and prepare a paste adding some milk. Continue applying the paste for 15 days. The method is simple, but effective. The tan on your skin can also be reduced considerably by applying on the darkened area a mixture of a small amount of turmeric powder and a few drops of lime juice. Or, slice a potato and keep them over the face. As potato is an active bleaching agent, it will help in lightening the dark spots. Another effective treatment at home for dark skin is applying a face pack made with one tea spoon of milk powder, lemon juice, half tea spoon of almond oil on your face and leaving it for around 15 minutes.

Natural and Ayurvedic:
Among other simple home remedies is applying a mixture of oatmeal, curd and tomato juice over the face and leaving it for about 15 minutes. When you clean it with cold water, the skin is refreshed and ran removed. It is also a good idea to apply ground mint pastes on your face to handle the problem. If you have scars on your face, it is better if you apply dried orange peels with curd on the spot. Or, grate a tomato and add a few drops of lemon juice. Apply it on your face and wash it after about 15 minutes. If you continue this process for at least a month, you will get good results. Also, drink more water to flush out toxins from your body and make your skin glow. Make sure that your diet includes whole cereals, vegetables, fruits, pulses etc.
