What is Influenza?
The term Influenza has been commonly known as the flu and this is an infectious and fatal disease. Influenza can affect birds and mammals caused by RNA viruses of the family of the influenza viruses also known as Orthomyxoviridae. The name influenza has been derived from the Italian name influenza, which means to influence and is known as influentia in Latin. Largely this disease affects the humans and it can lead to some severe side effects and adverse health reactions. Some of the common symptoms of influenza include fever, chills, muscle pains, etc. Influenza can be fatal, particularly in young children and the aged and this is often confused with the common cold. Types of Influenza Virus:
There are various kinds of influenza virus is an RNA virus of the family orthomyxoviridae and these include Influenza-virus A, Influenza-virus B, Influenza-virus C, Isavirus and Thogotovirus.

The Symptoms of Influenza:
Some of the most common symptoms of influenza start quite suddenly and usually occur one to two days after infection. It has been seen that these symptoms include chills or a chilly sensation accompanied with fever early in the infection. At such times the body temperatures ranging from 38-39 °C or 100-103 °F, and most of the people fall so ill because of the flu that they are confined to bed for several days. The other regular symptoms of influenza fatigue, body aches, especially joints and throat aches, extreme coldness and fever, headaches, watering of the eyes, reddened skin and pain in the abdominal area. Most of the times, it can be difficult to distinguish between the common cold and influenza, especially in the early stages.

The Prevention of Influenza:
Influenza vaccines have been discovered which are recommended for high-risk groups, like the children and the elderly.
