What is Yeast Infection?
The term yeast infection is also known as Candidiasis, which is also known as Candidosis, Moniliasis and Oidiomycosis. The yeast infection is basically a fungal infection or mycosis, which can be of any of the Candida species. The Candida albicans is the most common in these kinds of infections and they include superficial kinds like oral thrush and vaginitis. They may also occur as systemic and potentially life-threatening diseases and are usually confined to severely immuno-compromised persons like those suffering from cancer, transplant, and AIDS.

Symptoms and Prevention of YeastI Infection:
The common symptoms of candidiasis or yeast infection vary depending on the area affected. It has been seen that the infection of the vagina or vulva could lead to severe itching, burning, soreness, and irritation. There is also whitish or whitish-gray discharge, which has curd-like appearance and is the symptom of yeast infection. Most of the times these symptoms are also present in the more common bacterial vaginosis and hence the disease can often be confused for yeast infection.

There are various preventive measures that can be applied to avoid this disease and these include avoiding sharing towels and washcloths. You should also wash your under garments in hot water and avoid the clothing that is tight in the crotch. You should always change out of your exercise clothes or swimsuit after the workout and should change your sanitary pads frequently and avoid using ones that are scented. Along with this you should avoid heavily scented soaps, perfumes and talcum powder and don’t itch or scratch the area too much if you get infected. The use of antibiotics is suggested only when necessary and eating a diet high in vegetables, protein and grains is suggested.

Causes of Yeast Infection:
The cause of the yeast infection largely depends on the type of infection also. Unhygienic sanitary conditions are the most common causes for vaginal yeast infections. Along with this a weakened or undeveloped immune system followed by metabolic illnesses could lead to this disease. HIV and AIDS, mononucleosis, steroids, stress, cancer treatments, and nutrient deficiency are linked to the causes of yeast infection. Sexual intercourse with an infected individual, having low immunity, antibiotics, and diabetes are some of the most common causes of yeast infection. It should be remembered that even though the infection is not deadly it can lead to problems in maintaining a regular and healthy lifestyle.

Treatment of Yeast Infection:
The yeast infection species are usually a part of the human body's normal oral and intestinal flora. It has been seen that the treatment with antibiotics could eliminate the yeast's natural competitors for resources and also increase the severity of the condition. Antifungal drugs commonly used to treat this infection but sole medication treatments may not give desired results and these infections could be linked with other diseases. The treatment for yeast infection can be availed at most of the hospitals across the country and prevention and healthy sanitary habits are suggested to avoid these infections.
